U.S. Treasury repurchased only $4.08 billion in long-term debt, below $6 billion cap

The U.S. Treasury conducted a long-term government bond buyback on Thursday (24th), ultimately purchasing approximately $4.08 billion in bonds, below the previously announced maximum repurchase amount of $6 billion. This operation primarily targeted 20- to 30-year government bonds and marked the second large-scale operation following the Treasury's expansion of its long-term bond buyback program.

The Treasury announced in August that it would at least double the repurchase size of long-end nominal coupon government bonds from a maximum of $2 billion per operation, effective from September 9, covering bonds with maturities of 10 to 20 years and 20 to 30 years. (kk)
