US and Iran Reportedly Discuss Phased Agreement Involving Opening of Strait of Hormuz and Lifting of Sanctions on Iran

ET Intelligence (special report on the 25th) According to sources, negotiation representatives from the United States and Iran are exploring a phased agreement, including Iran re-opening the Strait of Hormuz and the United States lifting economic blockades on Iranian ports.

Sources said that the two countries made breakthrough progress in negotiations on Thursday (24th) during the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, with Qatari officials serving as intermediaries.

This step-by-step agreement resembles the memorandum of understanding reached by the US and Iran in mid-June. That memorandum had led to a fragile ceasefire, which collapsed just weeks later.

Meanwhile, a White House official said Trump remains willing to dialogue with Iran, but emphasized that the United States does not need to negotiate, as it currently holds a favorable position due to escalating sanctions and sustained maritime blockades putting pressure on Iran's economy. (rc)
